Nursery Manager

Our client in the forest seedling growth industry is seeking a Nursery Manager to join their team. In this key role, you will be leading a seedling nursery and its staff to success. The ideal candidate will have a passion for agriculture, be a skilled leader, and have an innovative mindset which will align successfully in the organization.
 
Job Title: Nursery Manager (Forest Seedlings)
Location: Telkwa, B.C.
Pay Range: $80k to $100k per year, plus bonus and benefits
Please note: Relocation incentive may be available for this position for the right candidate

What’s the Job?

  • Ensure adherence to organizational health and safety programs through routine management, review, and follow-up procedures
  • Develop and prioritize proposals for capital expenditures and projects
  • Manage and supervise container seedling production
  • Create production target plans, Implement crop and work plans
  • Identify and assess crop damage, losses and reliability issues
  • Perform root-cause analysis with nursery personnel and develop solutions
  • Keep neat and accurate records
  • Hire, mentor, coach, and train nursery personnel; responsible for performance management and terminations as necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements
  • Correspond with customers
  • Follow and enforce safe work practices
  • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement
  • Promote collaboration and teamwork at all levels
  • Set targets (i.e., production, timelines) and evaluate achievement

 
What’s Needed?

  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five or more years of horticulture or crop production experience preferred.
  • Must be located in, or willing to relocate, to Telkwa, B.C.
  • Dynamic leadership skills with the ability to plan, train and coach staff.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Proficient understanding of production processes, quality control principles, and safety regulations.
  • Strong planning, organization, and time management skills
  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, think strategically, conduct a root cause analysis and make data-driven decisions
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Robust computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Work, Outlook)
  • Knowledge or experience with continuous process improvement in a production environment
