Personal Care Attendant

As a Personal Care Attendant, you will be responsible for assisting the employer (male, 30) in his home with daily morning and/or evening activities of daily living, including:
– Bathing and personal grooming, including skincare, dental care, and shaving;
– Dressing and undressing;
– Transferring into bed, or from bed to wheelchair, and vice versa;
– Laundry as needed;
– Minimal housekeeping tasks and meal preparation as needed

Environment: Please note that this is a smoke-free household. Furthermore, it is home to one friendly golden retriever, Charlie. Charlie is trained not to bark and poses no threat to employees other than those with severe pet allergies. PPE is provided.

No experience or education required: Previous experience in a personal care setting is considered a preferred asset, as are HSW-PSW Certifications or similar. Life experience working with individuals with physical disabilities is also considered a preferred asset.

Training: Applicants undergo an informal training period of three to five (3-5) days with the employer, learning the specifics of the position.

Salaries: Salaries begin at $18.50/hour and increase to $25.00/hour upon completion of the above 3-5 day training period. A travel allowance of $5.00/shift can be discussed. Payments are processed bi-weekly and include 4% vacation pay, as well as all relevant deductions (CPP, EI, income tax). As per the Employment Standards Act, employees are paid for nine (9) public holidays. Funding is provided via Direct Funding Self-Managed Attendant Services in Ontario, which is itself funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
