The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Designer to join our Engineering and Reliability team Long Harbour

This is a permanent hybrid position, working a 4x10s schedule (Monday to Thursday OR Tuesday to Friday) or on a Monday to Friday schedule working primarily from the St. John’s or LH Office

As a Senior Designer, you will provide innovative engineering design solutions to operating and maintenance problems via drafting and design for the Engineering design team according to Vale standards and safe operating procedures. The incumbent will be responsible for completing drafting and design for typical engineering projects for both mines and surface plants.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Complete drafting and design for Engineering projects for both mines and surface plants (including simple calculations)
  • Prepare design packages for operations, maintenance, and capital projects, utilizing good design practices and considering risk, while minimizing costs (Engineer will approve all designs)
  • Effectively schedule, prioritize, and manage tasks to meet commitments with customers.
  • Conduct site surveys / field verifications, collect data, and take measurements
  • Create, search for, review and check engineering drawings
  • Define design parameters, develop workplans, and select minor equipment
  • Consult with vendors, complete tender and construction reviews, and work through FEL process
  • Solve problems that arise during the design process to keep the engineering job on time and on budget
  • Participate in all required safety training and apply the principles of HomeSafe during daily tasks.
  • Be proficient in creating and redlining P&IDs, Piping ISOs, and other work for various disciplines (ie, structural details, instrumentation segment diagrams, electrical single lines, etc), using MicroStation (both 2D and 3D), and 3D piping modelling using Smart 3D

About You

Education:

  • Diploma in Engineering Technologist

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years

Skills:

  • Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook; knowledge of Excel is required. Working knowledge of SAP is a benefit. Knowledge of other ERP systems and PowerBI is an asset.
  • Drafting Skills: Must possess the ability to scale drawings, create or revise drawings, and reserve and archive drawings.
  • Experience in some Electrical and Structural drafting/design will be considered an asset
  • System Knowledge – Knowledgeable in one or more design software (MicroStation and Smart 3D)
  • Numeric Logic – Proficient use of spreadsheets. Understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
  • Communication skills / demonstrated skills in time management and in conflict management. Ability to work in high paced environment with competing demands and priorities
