Position: PSW – Personal Support Worker
Accepting: Fulltime, Parttime and Casual / Oncall Support
Location: Brampton, ON
Pay rate: $21/hour
Shifts: Required to work all three shift: Days, evenings, nights, and weekends;
Shift times: 8am-4pm, 4pm-12am, 12am-8am

Under the direction and supervision of the Residential Operations Manager, the Personal Support Worker provides resident-focused personal care, within team approach consistent with the Mission and Philosophy of our client. The Personal Support Worker (PSW) provides support services to the residents in the activities of daily living (ADL) as directed by the individual client. The PSW enhances the quality of life of the residents by providing physical support care, social development, and assistance in directing self-care. In addition, the PSW will provide an environment that will encourage the residents to develop to their fullest potential in all areas of life.
Delivers resident-focused care within full scope of practice of a PSW, in a home-like environment, respecting the individuality and dignity of each resident/family and co-worker.

Resident Care Responsibilities
• Making certain that care is provided to each resident in a flexible and individualized manner, respecting the resident’s choices for activities of daily living (for example: showering or bathing, time of meals, etc.)
• Participate with other team members in formulating, delivering and reporting the daily resident care needs and personal preferences by:
1. Attending and gathering pertinent data from shift exchange report;
2. Seeking direction from Residential Manager, as required;
3. Observing residents for any changes and reporting immediately to the Residential Manager or their designate;
4. Assessing behaviours and activities of daily living and reporting in oral and/or written form as directed; and,
5. Reporting unusual events promptly and directly to the Residential Manager or their designate.
• Performing personal care, which may include bathing/showering, grooming, hygiene, mouth care, dressing, undressing, positioning, lifting/transferring, bowel care and toileting
• Administering of medication, as required and as per Agency policy and procedures
• Planning and preparing meals as required and assisting with meals and observing safe swallowing of food
• Being familiar with the various equipment used for resident care
• Homemaking duties including housekeeping and laundry
• Respecting the privacy of the resident, maintaining confidentiality and respecting personal issues and lifestyles of residents, families and co-workers
• Sharing important information with residents, their guardians and staff to maintain an effective and efficient communication system as per Agency policies. This includes PCH established reporting and recording procedures.
• Developing job related knowledge and skills by making use of training and learning opportunities and participating in all mandatory training.
• Maintaining a warm and friendly atmosphere in the house by dressing and speaking in a professional manner
• Ensures daily, the neatness of residents’ rooms, furniture, clothes closets, mobility devices, tub/washrooms, utility rooms and kitchen
• Promoting team work among all staff, residents and management, for example: sharing shift chores equally, exchanging information at shift change and participating in meetings
• Maintaining familiarity and compliance of PCH policies and procedures

Qualifications and experience
• Personal Support Worker Certificate from a recognized educational institution
• Min 2 years experience demonstrating an understanding of the needs of seniors, persons with disabilities, caregivers and persons with an acute or chronic health condition
• Experience working in a culturally diverse health care environment
• Analytical skills to assess client’s needs, functional level and ability to perform the Activities of Daily Living (good judgement and problem solving skills)
• Written communication skills to complete client’s Progress Reports, Occurrence Reports and other required reports
• Time management skills to follow an established schedule
• Commitment to providing the highest level of customer service and client care
• Interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with clients, colleagues, supervisors, agency personnel and other health care professionals
• Ability to work well with others in a team approach, and adapt to changing situations
• Physically capable of performing assigned duties within a flexible work schedule inside a 24 hour a day 7 day per week operation
• Current CPR and First Aid certification is a requirement
• Clean and valid within the last six months vulnerable sector check
• Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft and other desktop applications is a definite asset
• Ability to speak a second language a definite asset
• Experience working in the community is a definite asset
