WHAT WE OFFER

Full-time | (One Year) Term | Saint John |On-Campus

Standard Work Hours: Mon – Fri | 8:00 am – 4:30 pm | 40 hours per week

Additional Working Conditions:

  • This position is a 25/25/25/25 time split of utility worker duties along with emergency shower & eyewash inspections. This also includes fire extinguisher checks that are regulated by Authorities Having Jurisdiction. This split must be adhered to.
  • This is a manual work position involving semi-skilled tasks of a physically demanding nature.
  • The duties include a degree of skill in moving and transporting materials and equipment, depending on the task work indoors or outdoors under varying conditions, at heights or in confined spaces.

Salary Range: $19.66 – $23.20 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Building Operations Manager or alternate, Emergency Shower Inspector conducts all tasks associated with emergency showers, eye wash inspections and fire extinguishers checks in all buildings including inspection, testing and tracking.

  • Reporting to the Building Operations Manager or alternate, Utility Worker PL3 (Emergency Shower Inspector) conducts all tasks associated with emergency showers, eye wash inspections and fire extinguishers checks in all buildings including inspection, testing and tracking.
  • Responsible for the set-up, dismantle, removal/relocation, repair and maintenance of furniture and equipment across campus; responsible for monitoring the state of furniture and equipment and taking necessary action as required to ensure the repair and/or replacement of same.
  • Responsible for work orders being reported daily and the execution of these work orders.
  • Responsible for the collection and delivery of new and used materials including hazardous materials, dangerous goods, lab equipment, kitchen appliances, office furniture etc. The transportation of goods may be internal or external.
  • Responsible for the installation of office furniture along with the repairs of fixtures and fittings across campus (i.e. desks, chairs, cabinets, whiteboards, shelving). The installation/repair of these items may require the utility operator to coordinate this work with management, faculty, or staff to avoid disruption to students.
  • Responsible for installing signage inside buildings and outside on campus grounds.
  • Occasionally operate Genie lift and perform duties from aerial work platforms. This includes work on light fixtures, ceiling tiles, flag poles etc.
  • May be required to operate light vehicle or small tractor to complete daily tasks.
  • The nature of the work will vary depending on the task, work may be in or out of doors under varying conditions, at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Assists with re-lamping of light fixtures in gyms, pools and dining halls.
  • Responsible for the application of safety precautions as may be required to ensure minimum hazard to self and others.
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation as well as the care and preservation of assigned tools and equipment.
  • Other Duties as required.
  • Performs emergency shower and eye wash inspection duties such as weekly inspections and operation (activating) emergency shower, eyewash stations, combination units, and drench hoses weekly as per WSNB regulations, documentation of all weekly testing, provide regular records and reports to supervisor.
  • Performs fire extinguisher inspections such as monthly inspections of all fire extinguishers on campus along with an annual inspection that requires valid testing, documentation of all fire extinguishers to ensure compliance, provide regular records and reports to Building Operations Manager.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Grade 12 education.
  • General knowledge of maintenance tools and equipment.
  • General knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices necessary for heavy lifting and labour work.
  • Must have the physical capacity to carry out the functions of the position, including the ability to lift heavy objects, work from ladders, at heights or in cramped quarters.
  • Training in safe lifting practices is essential.
