WHAT WE OFFER

Full-time | (One Year) Term | Fredericton | On-Campus

Standard Work Hours: Mon – Fri | 7:30 am – 4:00 pm | 40 hours per week

Additional Working Conditions:

  • This position is a 50/50 time split of laborer duties and emergency shower inspections.
  • This is a manual work position involving indoor and outdoor semi-skilled tasks.
  • The work may involve working at high levels from scaffolding, ladders, or mechanical lifts.
  • The work requires physical capacity to carry out the functions of the trade including the ability, on occasion, to lift heavy objects, and work from ladders or in cramped quarters or confined spaces.
  • The position requires overtime work.
  • A telephone is necessary for callouts in the event of inclement weather and emergencies.

Salary: $22.90 per/hour

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Operations Foreperson or alternate, the Labourer/Emergency Shower Inspector is responsible for handling general labourer tasks including moving and transporting materials, handling equipment, maintaining lawns, removing snow and all tasks related to Emergency Showers in all buildings including inspection and tracking.

  • Shovels snow as directed from steps, walkways, fire hydrants, and building roofs, or other areas. Sand and salt steps and walkways, as well as other areas as directed.
  • Assists crews on snow removal equipment, loaders, trucks equipped with snow removal attachments etc.
  • Cuts and trims grass, shrubs and hedges by hand or with power equipment. Rakes and loads leaves, trimmings and other refuse.
  • Assists in the repairing and building of lawns and landscaping, building of retaining walls.
  • Is responsible for general cleanliness and clean-up around the campus, such as picking up paper and refuse and the sweeping of sidewalks, streets and parking lots.
  • Assist with general repairs of streets, walkways, and parking lots, which includes application of asphalt.
  • May be required to operate light vehicle or small tractors to complete daily tasks.
  • The nature of the work will vary depending on the task, work may be in or out of doors under varying conditions, at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Assists with re-lamping of light fixtures in gyms, pools and dining halls.
  • Inspects and clears roof drains, tunnels, catch basins, and other areas as directed.
  • Loads and unloads trucks, carries heavy cartons or equipment from transportation facilities to storage or building sites. Set up or removes materials and furniture for special events and office renovations or relocations.
  • Maintains sports fields as directed, using push and/or ride on mowers
  • Responsible for the application of safety precautions as may be required to ensure minimum hazard to self and others.
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation as well as the care and preservation of assigned tools and equipment.
  • Performs emergency shower and other testing as required, duties such as weekly inspections and operation (activating) emergency shower, eyewash stations, combination units, and drench hoses weekly as per WSNB regulations, documentation of all weekly testing, provide regular records and reports to supervisor.
  • Other duties as required.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Grade 12 education.
  • General knowledge of maintenance tools and equipment, mowers, whipper snippers.
  • General knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices necessary for heavy lifting and labour work.
  • Must have the physical capacity to carry out the functions of the position, including the ability to lift heavy objects, work from ladders, at heights or in cramped quarters.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime as required. A telephone is necessary for callouts in the event of inclement weather and emergencies.
  • Knowledge of windows excel and word.
