Meridia is excited to be partnering with the Chipman Sawmill to recruit an Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Technician. The mill is located in Chipman, New Brunswick, about 70 kilometers from the city of Fredericton.
Role Description
As a technical expert, you’ll take charge of training and supervising operating, electrical, and maintenance staff on diverse electrical systems, components, and PLCs. You’ll play a crucial role in evaluating system performance, diagnosing issues, and providing critical support during equipment breakdowns. You will lead the analysis, design, installation, and testing of electrical systems, ensuring all new installations meet the company’s design, operating, and quality standards. You’ll also establish operating standards and procedures, oversee new system installations, and tackle challenges during commissioning and start-up with expertise and precision. You will join an operation that is focused on delivering quality products and exceptional performance through a continuous investment in people and the most up-to-date technology.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide key technical support to the mills by supervising and training operating, electrical, and maintenance staff on electrical equipment, components, systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), instrumentation, and circuitry.
- Evaluate system performance and diagnose the causes of electrical malfunctions or equipment failures, offering support during breakdowns.
- Offer technical leadership and support for the analysis, design, installation, and testing of electrical systems, control equipment, instrumentation, circuitry, motor-control devices, and other electrical equipment.
- Ensure that new installations are completed and operated in accordance with Irving’s design, operating, and quality specifications.
- Coordinate and establish standards for electrical equipment operation and standard operating procedures.
- Plan and inspect the installation, modification, testing, and operation of new electrical systems and equipment.
- Resolve issues encountered during all phases of installation, commissioning, and start-up of systems.
Your qualifications include:
- A bachelor’s degree or other completed 2-year (minimum) post-secondary program in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Instrumentation Technology or another technical discipline and/or a Red Seal in an Electrical/Instrumentation trade.
- 7 years experience within a similarly complex and fast-paced work environment.
- Prior experience in Sawmills, Pulp & Paper, or another industrial environment is a strong asset.
- Strong technical ability and knowledge of PLC. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD is an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to plan, set priorities, multi-task, and complete projects while understanding quality and timeline expectations from all work streams.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and resolve issues as they arise.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and industry standards.
- A valid driver’s license is a requirement of this role.
