Responsibilities
Tasks
- Design prosthetic and orthotic devices, such as artificial limbs, braces or supports based on physicians’ prescriptions and examination of patients
- Ensure the information on prescriptions is accurate
- Fabricate prosthetic and orthotic appliances
- Fit and make adjustments for proper fit and comfort
- Repair, build and modify prosthetic or orthotic appliances or footwear
- Assemble or build prosthetic and orthotic appliances according to drawings, measurements and plaster casts
- Examine and measure patients to develop working sketches of appliances
- Take body or limb measurements of patients
- Interpret physician’s specification
- Make and modify plaster casts
- Repair and maintain fabrication and laboratory equipment
