Responsibilities

Tasks

  • Design prosthetic and orthotic devices, such as artificial limbs, braces or supports based on physicians’ prescriptions and examination of patients
  • Ensure the information on prescriptions is accurate
  • Fabricate prosthetic and orthotic appliances
  • Fit and make adjustments for proper fit and comfort
  • Repair, build and modify prosthetic or orthotic appliances or footwear
  • Assemble or build prosthetic and orthotic appliances according to drawings, measurements and plaster casts
  • Examine and measure patients to develop working sketches of appliances
  • Take body or limb measurements of patients
  • Interpret physician’s specification
  • Make and modify plaster casts
  • Repair and maintain fabrication and laboratory equipment
