The Opportunity

We are currently seeking Underground Mine Operator 1’s to join our Underground Operations team in Voisey’s Bay, Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation.

This is a permanent on-site position, working a 2 week on, 2 week off rotation.

As an Underground Mine Operator 1 you will be responsible to perform the support functions in the underground mining operation at the highest experience level within the below areas. Your experience and skills will help to build our mines and maintain a safe working environment for everyone.

Shotcrete, Construction, Backfill

• Perform Shotcrete.
• Construct Ventilation, Backfill Barricades & Steel Installations.
• Concrete Installations.

Haulage

• Operate Remote Scoop and Draw Point Scoop in a safe and efficient manner.

Development

• Operate Jumbo in a safe and efficient manner.
• Read and interpret mine development layouts.
• Perform Mobile Bulk Blasting (advancing drift).

Production (Drill & Blast)

• Operate in the Hole (ITH) Drill and Mobile Raise Bore Drill in a safe and efficient manner.

About You

Education:

Minimum Grade 10 secondary school or equivalent is required.

College of the North Atlantic (CNA) has partnered with Vale Newfoundland and Labrador to create an alternate pathway for those interested in pursuing a career in the mining industry. Applicants who do not meet the minimum education requirements outlined above may complete a Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES). Experience:

• A minimum of 8 years’ experience working in an underground mining operation using mechanized equipment.

Skills:

• Demonstrate a concern for Safety, Health and Environment.
• Knowledge of safe work practices and standard operating procedures.
• Ability to recognize hazards within an industrial workplace, understand role in assessing & managing risk.
• Strong ability to work cooperatively within a team environment.
• Demonstrate initiative and follow instruction.
