MCIS Language Solutions is a Toronto-based non-profit that has evolved into a model social enterprise and has been relentlessly pursuing our goal to remove language barriers for over 35 years. With over 70 full-time staff and engaging a roster of over 5,000 interpreters, translators, voice artists, transcriptionists, training facilitators, and other language professionals, MCIS provides a full suite of language solutions: from language interpretation, translation, and transcription to localization, training and training development for government, legal, police services and healthcare organizations in 300 languages.

Every year MCIS invests some of our net income into initiatives that support free services for victims of violence and the homeless, and training subsidies for aspiring interpreters and translators. About the Opportunity
MCIS Language Solutions is looking for a full-time Director of Planning and Operations. The successful candidate will be working remotely within Ontario, with the ability to travel to our office in Toronto on occasion.

As the Director of Planning and Operations, you will be responsible for developing and executing operational strategies that drive organizational growth, enhance efficiency, and ensure alignment with MCIS strategic goals. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will oversee multiple areas including service quality, compliance, research and development, and internal operations, while leading a cross-functional team to achieve measurable outcomes.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing strategic plans to enhance organizational growth, sustainability, and ethical governance
  • Collaborating with senior leadership to align operational plans with the organizations mission and goals, and setting measurable service delivery targets
  • Analyzing market trends, demand for language services, and the competitive landscape to identify opportunities for service expansion
  • Leading the refinement of processes to improve service quality, increase productivity, and reduce costs
  • Defining and monitoring OKRs to ensure achievement of operational, financial, and service delivery objectives
  • Developing and executing operational plans to optimize resource allocation and efficient service delivery
  • Leading change management initiatives to ensure smooth adoption of new processes and strategies
  • Managing cross-functional projects from planning to execution, ensuring on-time, in-scope, and on-budget delivery
  • Conducting research and development to enhance existing services and develop new offerings based on market trends and client feedback
  • Developing and overseeing pilot programs for new services, monitoring performance and adjusting strategies as needed
  • Implementing quality assurance programs to ensure services meet or exceed established standards
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, industry standards, and contractual obligations
  • Preparing regular business reports, providing actionable insights for operational performance improvement
  • Mentoring and developing team members, fostering collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional growth
  • Managing risks by identifying, assessing, and developing mitigation strategies for project delivery and operational procedures

About You
To qualify, you will need a bachelors degree in Business Administration, or a related field. A minimum of 8 years of progressive leadership experience in operations management and strategic planning, managing teams, or a related role, will also be essential.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience in the non-profit sector
  • Knowledge of the language industry
  • Expertise in project management tools and software
  • Proven ability to develop and monitor OKRs
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, PIPEDA, and provincial privacy legislations applicable to personal health information
