WHAT WE OFFER

Full-time | (12 Month) Term | Fredericton | On-Campus

Standard Work Hours: Variable Days | Shift Work | 40 hours per week

Additional Working Conditions:

  • A Criminal Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check are required before the start date of the position.
  • Weekend shifts are mandatory.
  • Ability to carry out physical requirements of the position, including frequent walking, bending and reaching as well as ability to lift heavy objects.

Salary Range: $ 22.90/hour

YOUR FOCUS

  • Reporting to Residence Operations Coordinator, the Cleaner 2 performs cleaning duties within residence buildings for UNB Fredericton. The Cleaner 2 may be responsible for a separate building or may work in a variety of residence buildings and may be called upon to assist in training staff who are working in the same location.
  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, wash, scrub, dust, wax, wax-strip, polish, and vacuum floors, walls, furnishings & lightshades.
  • Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome.
  • Shampoo rugs & upholstered furniture and remove hanging drapes as required.
  • Open, close, lock, and unlock doors and windows as required in the performance of cleaning duties.
  • Keep buildings locked and secured and report any damage, deficiencies, or malfunctioning to the Residence Operations Coordinator.
  • Collect refuse in and around buildings, empty garbage & recycling containers and remove refuse to central garbage or recycling locations for pick up.
  • Sweep and clean walkways and steps including shovelling snow from walkways and steps and using de-icer as required.
  • Fill paper towel holders and soap/sanitizer containers in washrooms and maintain stock of supplies.
  • Report any missing or damaged University finishings or equipment to the Residence Operations Coordinator.
  • Check and clean equipment rooms.
  • Replace lightbulbs and fluorescent tubes of a height of 10 ft or less.
  • Pickup deliveries and sort mail for assigned buildings daily.
  • Clean all common areas in assigned buildings including hallways, stairwells, entryways and kitchens.
  • Bundle and carry laundry/ linens to and from the central collecting area to various floors and levels, strip and remake beds during the summer conference/ hotel season.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 – 3 years of custodial experience, preferably in a residential setting.

Additional Strengths

  • Experience in a residential setting is considered an asset.
  • Ability to deal pleasantly and effectively with a wide range of individuals.
  • Ability to work alone with little to no supervision.
  • Ability to follow a well-established routine.
  • Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and practices used in cleaning operation will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations, including WHMIS regulations will be considered an asset.
