Job Title: Technical Packaging Machine Operator
Location: Vaughan, ON
Pay Rate: $22.50 per hour
Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Technical Packaging Machine Operator to join our team in Vaughan. In this role, you will set up, adjust, and operate automated packaging equipment, including Vertical Form Fill Seal (VFFS) baggers and Tray Sealers. Your expertise in food packaging equipment, such as scales, baggers, sealers, and case coders, will be essential in ensuring smooth and efficient production processes. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring the production line, troubleshooting machine issues, and maintaining equipment to ensure consistent and successful operation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor production lines for malfunctions and adjust machinery according to safety procedures.
- Perform pre-shift equipment checks to ensure proper functionality.
- Set up and adjust machines to run various packaging sizes and types per the production schedule.
- Stop, lock out/tag out, or reset machines during malfunctions, clear jams, and report issues to supervisors.
- Conduct quality checks to ensure finished products meet quality standards.
- Communicate effectively with other production staff to ensure efficient production and minimize set-up times.
- Perform preventative maintenance checks throughout the shift and report equipment malfunctions to the Production Supervisor or Manager.
- Train lower-level operators on equipment and processes.
- Participate in all required training sessions.
- Lead and provide guidance to team members, demonstrating reliability and responsibility.
- Manage special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
- Observe safety and security procedures, take appropriate action when necessary, and use equipment and materials properly.
Qualifications:
- Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in VFFS/tray sealing or similar packaging environments as a machine operator.
- Strong knowledge of food packaging equipment, including scales, baggers, sealers, case coders, and the manufacturing process.
- Training in electrical safety, Lock-out/Tag Out safety, and proper lifting techniques.
- Language Ability:
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Mechanical Ability:
- Proficiency in using basic mechanical tools and troubleshooting common machine issues.
- Ability to perform daily preventive maintenance tasks.
- Mathematical Ability:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to work in a cold environment (2°C).
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, talk, or hear.
- Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and depth perception.
Work Schedule:
- Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed by business demands.
