Part Time Caretaker/Custodian

St. Martin's United Church

St. Martin’s United Church is seeing a part-time caretaker for our building.

Qualifications:
• Self motivated and team oriented;
• Knowledgeable of industrial cleaning processes and products and their practical application;
• Adept and proactive in maintenance and minor repairs;
• Knowledge of and practical knowledge of various computer programs, especially those relating to review of online booking of functions/rentals.
• Basic understanding of heating, plumbing and electrical systems.

Duties:
• Attendance at staff meetings;
• Maintain and update the list of professional services available, including for example snow removal, boiler maintenance, plumbing and electrical;
• Cleaning upstairs bathroom, and vacuuming main floor and front, back steps;
• Setup takedown /movement of furniture within the church to facilitate various functions and rentals;
• Upkeep of the grounds (lawns, flowerbeds, and shovelling);
• Completion of minor repairs and maintenance of interior and exterior and to church equipment and machinery;
• Maintain effective working relationship with Alerces Pre-school janitor;
• Maintaining inventory of church furniture including, chairs, tables, sofas and lounge chairs;
• Other tasks which may be assigned from time to time by their immediate supervisor.

Reporting Relationships:
• Responsible to St. Martin’s Official Board through the Ministry and Personnel Committee;
• Reports directly to the designated professional staff member;
• Works cooperatively with the Property Committee.

Hours of Work:
The position is a permanent position of 54 hours per month, based on a five-day week (Monday through Friday).
There may be some flexibility in the hours to meet operational requirements.

Probationary Period:
The probationary period is three (3) months worked from the start date of employment.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary to be negotiated.

Membership in the United Church of Canada is not a requirement for position consideration.
