Responsibilities
Tasks
- Correct translated work using reference material, such as dictionaries and computer software to ensure translation accuracy
- Revise translated material to ensure that translations retain the meaning, feeling and content of the original material
- Supervise staff
- Train staff
- Translate sign language to a spoken language and vice versa
- Interpret oral communication from one language to another aloud or using electronic equipment
- Provide interpretation services in court
- Interpret for persons speaking an Aboriginal or foreign language
- Interpret language for individuals and small groups
- Circulate updated linguistic information
- Conduct terminological research on a given subject or in response to inquiries
- Identify the terminology used in a field of activity
- Maintain the content, context and style of the original material
- Perform quality control and proofreading
- Provide consultative services to translators, interpreters and technical writers
- Translate a variety of written material
